He remains faithful to her memory, even though he never marries. Arvasu is a complex and sympathetic character. He is a man of great love and compassion, but he is also a product of his time. He is bound by the strict social norms of his society, and he is unable to overcome them.

III

A. Sketch the character of Nittilia.

When she sees him wounded, she cares him and cures him. Her love and adoration are not sensual however spiritual and otherworldly. She decides that she will live with Aravasu not as a wife but as a sister. She permits Aravasu to wed a girl of his choice. B. Explain Anger it's complications in Girish Karnad's "The Fire and The Rain".

The “Fire and the rain” play written by Girish Karnad. The main Title of the play is “Agni Mattu male” in Kannada language.

It was published in 1998. Girish Karnad is an actor, director, writer and playwright.

In this play” The fire and the rain” we find some major characters as like

  • Bharadwaja
  • Raibhya
  • Yavakri
  • Aravasu
  • Paravasu
  • Vishakha
  • Nittilai
  • Nittilia’s brother
  • Brahma Rakshasa (Demon)
  • King and actor manager

We find many theme in this play like, Alienation, Love, family heated, Religion and art, Yagna and theater etc. There were two sages, Bharadwaja and Raibhya,In Girish Karnad’s play “The Fire and the Rain,” anger is a driving force behind many of the characters’ actions. The play is set in ancient India and tells the story of a family of Brahmins who are torn apart by rivalry and jealousy.

The play’s protagonist, Paravasu, is a brilliant and ambitious young man who is determined to surpass his father, Raibhya, as the chief priest of the kingdom. Paravasu’s anger is fueled by his sense of entitlement and his belief that he is superior to others.

Raibhya is also a proud and ambitious man, and he is not willing to give up his position as chief priest without a fight. His anger is fueled by his fear of being replaced and his need to maintain his power and status.

The play The Fire and The Rain is based on the myth of Yavakri, extracted from the chapters 135- 138 of the Vana Parva (the forest canto) of the Mahabharata. It took thirty seven years for Karnad to accomplish this work. According to the myth, Yavakri a sage who had attained universal knowledge from Indra has a burning desire to revenge on his uncle, Raibhya’s family. Yavakri’s father Bharadwaja and Raibhya were brothers, they were equally learned, but Raibhya was getting more recognition among the two, this was the cause for the anger getting hoarded inside Yavakri. How he satiates himself and what are the consequences he faces contribute to be the source for the play. The genius playwright has added the flavor of rage to it and beautified the plot further.

IV. Write a short notes on any two of the following

1. Constituent Assembly speech of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Dr B.R. Ambedkar to the foundational beginnings of the Indian nation certainly attest to the fact that the Father of Indian Constitution lived up to this standard.

Constituent Assembly Debates On 17 December, 1946

CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY OF INDIA – Volume I Tuesday, the 17th December, 1946 The Constituent Assembly of India met in the Constitution Hall, New Delhi, at Eleven of the Clock, Mr. Chairman (The Hon’ble Dr. Rajendra Prasad) in the Chair.

These eleven sessions of the Constituent Assembly have consumed 165 days. Out of these, the Assembly spent 114 days for the consideration of the Draft Constitution.

Coming to the Drafting Committee, it was elected by the Constituent Assembly on 29th August 1947. It held its first meeting on 30th August. Since August 30th it sat for 141 days during which it was engaged in the preparation of the Draft Constitution. The Draft Constitution as prepared by the Constitutional Adviser as a text for the Draft Committee to work upon consisted of 243 articles and 13 Schedules. The first Draft Constitution as presented by the Drafting Committee to the Constituent Assembly contained 315 articles and 8 Schedules. At the end of the consideration stage, the number of articles in the Draft Constitution increased to 386. In its final form, the Draft Constitution contains 395 articles and 8 Schedules. The total number of amendments to the Draft Constitution tabled was approximately 7,635. Of them, the total number of amendments actually moved in the House was 2,473.

I mention these facts because at one stage it was being said that the Assembly had taken too long a time to finish its work, that it was going on leisurely and wasting the public money. It was said to be a case of Nero fiddling while Rome was burning. Is there any justification for this complaint? Let us note the time the consumed by Constituent Assemblies in other countries appointed for framing their Constitutions. To take a few illustrations, the American Convention met on May 25th 1787 and completed its work on September 17, 1787 i.e., within four months. The Constitutional Convention of Canada met on the 10th October 1864 and the Constitution was passed into law in March 1867 involving a period of two years and five months. The Australian Constitutional Convention assembled in March 1891 and the Constitution became law on the 9th July 1900, consuming a period of nine years. The South African Convention met in October, 1908 and the Constitution became law on the 20th September 1909 involving one year’s labour. It is true that we have taken more time than what the American or South African Conventions did. But we have not taken more time than the Canadian Convention and much less than the Australian Convention. In making comparisons on the basis of time consumed, two things must be remembered. One is that the Constitutions of America, Canada, South Africa and Australia are much smaller than ours. Our Constitution as I said contains 395 articles while the American has just seven articles, the first four of which are divided into sections which total up to 21, the Canadian has 147, Australian 128 and South African 153 sections. The second thing to be remembered is that the makers of the Constitutions of America, Canada, Australia and South Africa did not have to face the problem of amendments. They were passed as moved. On the other hand, this Constituent Assembly had to deal with as many as 2.473 amendments. Having regard to these facts the charge of dilatoriness seems to me quite unfounded and this Assembly may well congratulate itself for having accomplished so formidable a task in so short a time.

As we commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti this year, we take a look at Dr. Ambedkar’s final speech in the Constituent Assembly, dated November 25, 1949.

In this address, Dr. Ambedkar presents his justification for the Constitution, in terms of the process undertaken to draft it, as well as its final form.

Notably, Dr. Ambedkar also goes on to outline certain standards that have to be necessarily adhered to if India is to progress as a nation. What emerges from the content of this speech is the picture of a visionary, who was wise enough to warn the country of the pitfalls of taking its independence for granted.

2. "Dream" of Martin Luther King.
Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one of the most iconic speeches in American history.

In the speech, King called for civil and economic rights for African Americans, and for an end to racism in the United States. King delivered the speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963 as the final speech of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Ruston organized the march to advocate for civil and economic rights for Black Americans, which was among the largest political rallies for human rights in history, attracting approximately 250,000 attendants. Following the speech, King was named Time magazine’s 1963 Man of the Year. A recording of “I Have a Dream” has been added to the United States National Recording Registry, and a line from the speech—“Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope”—is the inscription on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C. King opens by stating he is happy to join the audience in a demonstration of freedom. Standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, King notes the Emancipation Proclamation was signed 100 years ago but today, Black people are still not truly free as they lack the same material benefits afforded other Americans. The march is designed to draw attention to that fact. The marchers are there to redeem a promise, to “cash a check” written to Black people by the US government and the Founding Fathers who promised all men were created equal in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. “All men” includes African Americans, yet America failed to deliver on its promise. Instead, it has passed a check that cannot be cashed by Black people. King and the marchers, however, refuse to accept that condition and demand the rights promised them.

The marchers are also there to remind the nation that the present is the time to act. Americans should not fall for the trap of making slow and steady progress. Instead, America must today fulfill the full promise of democracy and racial justice. The summer has been one of discontent, but 1963 is a beginning—not an end. The road ahead will lead to an autumn marked with equality for all people so long as the summer’s protests do not result in a return to the complacency of years past. King interrupts to warn the audience that the road to freedom must not be laid by bitterness, hatred, or bad behavior—especially violence. Instead, those seeking freedom must hold themselves to a higher moral standard and meet acts of violence with acts of love and faith. It is a good thing Black people are now militant about their freedoms, but they must recognize that there are White people in the crowd who have joined the march and who see their struggle for freedom linked to that of Black Americans. Black people must walk with White people as no one can march alone. As they march, all must promise to continue marching forward. Many will ask if the marchers will ever be satisfied. The answer is no: They will not be satisfied as long as Black men are victims of police violence, segregation endures, Black people have no upward economic mobility and are disenfranchised.

The marchers will not be satisfied until justice and righteousness pour through the nation. King turns from the general group (who he has been referring to as “we”) to individual groups (who he refers to as “some of you”). Some present have come from worse struggles than others, some from jails, some from areas in which they have suffered police violence and persecution. But to each of them, King asks them to continue to creatively suffer but to ensure the suffering begets change. He asks them to take that faith back to their home states (Short Story).
3. Kiran Bedi's views on the visionary leadership.
The speech by Kiran Bedi, India’s first woman IPS officer on visionary leadership.

Dr. Kiran Bedi has been an exception since her childhood. She gives all the credit for it to the nourishment her parents provided her with. Dr. Bedi on various occasions has spoken about the non-traditional method of the upbringing of the four girls in her family by her parents. The time in which today’s children are growing up is far ahead of the time Dr. Bedi was growing up. Ironically, the kind of opportunities and resources that came her way were futuristic. Mr. Prakash Lal Peshawari, Dr. Kiran Bedi’s father, always encouraged his daughters to read. Reading is one of many qualities that she inherited from her father. In one of the editions of the Book Reading Series with Dr. Kiran Bedi, she spoke about how her father used to share “flashes of inspirational thoughts” at late in the night when he used to be reading. “Every bit of a good reading is like a drop of nutrition for your mind” she quoted. (LG Dr Kiran Bedi’s Virtual Book Reading with Dr Kiran Bedi | Session 4)

Nowadays, with general advancement in society, equal platforms are available to both – girls and boys or men and women. It then depends on how optimally one uses the opportunities that come one’s way. With age, the role of nurturance fades away and is replaced by the maturity that comes along with education and experience. Dr. Bedi in a webinar on women empowerment stated how everything comes back to ‘demanding for your place under the sun.’ Patriarchy is still around the world…The Man was the provider and the woman the server, but it’s changing. We have inherited patriarchy, but we don’t have to pass it on. The innate qualities of women

A woman’s spirit lies in her inborn ability to love, care, and collaborate. Women are born natural collaborators and communicators. These are her organic strengths that are settled at the core of her heart. Being non-hierarchical, women grow up to become team builders. These soft skills that women innately possess should never be unlearned, rather the men have to be trained in the same. Men are born with gifts of physical strength, mobility, and inheritance given to them by the nature of gender. Men are born with the mindset of being providers to their families. These qualities possessed by men can be learned by women through training. Men cannot gain the exceptional traits of sacrifice and gentleness externally since women are born with the heart for it.

C. Write a essay on 'Natural Disasters' or 'Deforestation'.

Natural Disasters

Natural disasters are events that occur naturally and cause damage to the environment and the people living in it. Some common natural disasters include earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and volcanic eruptions. Natural disasters can be devastating, causing loss of life, property damage, and economic disruption.

There are many factors that contribute to natural disasters, including climate change, geological activity, and human development. Climate change is making natural disasters more frequent and severe. For example, warmer temperatures are causing more intense hurricanes and floods. Geological activity, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, can also cause significant damage. Human development can also make natural disasters more severe. For example, building in floodplains or on fault lines can increase the risk of damage.

Natural disasters can have a devastating impact on human society. They can cause loss of life, injury, and displacement. They can also damage infrastructure, disrupt businesses, and lead to economic hardship. Natural disasters can also have a negative impact on the environment, damaging ecosystems and causing habitat loss.

There are a number of things that can be done to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. These include:

  • Preparedness: Governments and communities can develop preparedness plans to help reduce the impact of natural disasters. This includes things like developing early warning systems, building evacuation routes, and stockpiling supplies.
  • Mitigation: Mitigation measures can be taken to reduce the risk of natural disasters. For example, buildings can be designed to withstand earthquakes and floods, and communities can develop flood control systems.
  • Response: When a natural disaster does occur, it is important to have a response plan in place. This includes things like evacuating people from danger zones, providing food and shelter, and providing medical assistance.

Deforestation

Deforestation is the clearing of forests for other uses, such as agriculture, logging, or development. Deforestation is a major environmental problem that has a number of negative impacts.

Forests play an important role in the environment. They help to regulate the climate, protect water quality, and provide habitat for wildlife. Deforestation can lead to a number of problems, including:

  • Climate change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so deforestation contributes to climate change.
  • Soil erosion: Forests help to prevent soil erosion by holding soil in place with their roots. Deforestation can lead to increased soil erosion, which can pollute waterways and reduce land productivity.
  • Water quality degradation: Forests help to filter water and protect water quality. Deforestation can lead to increased water pollution, which can harm human health and aquatic ecosystems.
  • Habitat loss: Forests provide habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals. Deforestation can lead to habitat loss, which can threaten biodiversity and disrupt ecosystems.

There are a number of things that can be done to prevent deforestation. These include:

  • Sustainable forest management: Forests can be managed sustainably to provide for human needs while also protecting the environment. This includes things like harvesting trees at a sustainable rate and replanting trees after they are harvested.
  • Reducing demand for forest products: Consumers can reduce their demand for forest products by choosing products that are made from recycled materials or from sustainably managed forests.
  • Protecting forests: Governments can protect forests by establishing protected areas and by enacting laws that prevent illegal logging and deforestation.

Deforestation is a serious environmental problem, but it is one that can be solved. By taking steps to protect forests and reduce demand for forest products, we can help to ensure that forests are preserved for future generations.

Indian Festivals

India is a land of many festivals, with each region and community having its own unique celebrations. Some of the most popular Indian festivals include:

  • Diwali: Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, and is celebrated with great fanfare all over the country. People decorate their homes and businesses with lights and candles, and exchange gifts with loved ones.
  • Holi: Holi is the Hindu festival of colors, and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm. People throw colored powder and water at each other, and dance to the beat of drums and music.
  • Dussehra: Dussehra is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is marked by the burning of effigies of Ravana, the demon king.
  • Eid-al-Fitr: Eid-al-Fitr is the Muslim festival that marks the end of the month of Ramadan. It is celebrated with feasting and family gatherings.
  • Christmas: Christmas is celebrated by Christians all over the world, and is a time for celebration and joy. People decorate their homes with Christmas trees and lights, and exchange gifts with loved ones.

A Football Match

A football match is a sporting event in which two teams of eleven players compete to score goals by kicking or heading a ball into the opposing goal. Football is the most popular sport in the world, and football matches are regularly attended by millions of people.

A football match typically lasts for 90 minutes, divided into two halves of 45 minutes each. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the match, extra time may be played. If the score is still tied after extra time, a penalty shootout may be used to determine the winner.

Football matches are typically played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The field is divided into two halves by a midfield line. The players are not allowed to touch the ball with their hands, except for the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is the only player who is allowed to touch the ball with their hands, but only within their own penalty area.

Football matches are fast-paced and exciting. There is always the potential for a goal to be scored, and the fans are constantly on the edge of their seats. Football matches are also a great way for people to come together and support their favorite team.

Conclusion

Indian festivals and football matches are two very different events, but they both have something in common: they are both ways for people to come together and celebrate. Indian festivals are a time for people to celebrate their culture and traditions, while football matches are a time for people to celebrate their love of sport.
